In the long battle against illness, “home” is always the warmest haven. As they return home, each family shares their heartfelt stories and touching moments during their stay.
Chi Lung’s story : From Darkness to Light
In March 2025, 13-year-old Chi Lung was diagnosed with a lung tumor after experiencing chest pain, throwing his family into despair. He underwent tumor resection surgery followed by three autologous transplants, requiring a hospital stay of over three months. At their most vulnerable moment, a medical social worker introduced them to Ronald McDonald House Hong Kong.
This became the most crucial turning point in their journey. Located close to the hospital with transportation support, the commute took just ten minutes. This allowed Chi Lung’s mother to provide constant care for her son while having the crucial ability to return to the House to rest, shower, and, importantly, cook suitable meals for him. “This is a place filled with love, every facility is thoughtfully designed,” she shared. Beyond practical support, the House provided irreplaceable emotional sustenance—a community of “companions on the same journey” who understood each other’s struggles.
As Chi Lung steadily improved, he began participating in House activities and even volunteered. Gifted in art, he channeled his gratitude into creating handmade decorations and paintings, which he gave to the House team and volunteers as tokens of his appreciation. This journey through adversity taught both mother and son about resilience and hope. Wishing to pass on the warmth they received, they made donations to both Hong Kong Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House Hong Kong upon leaving.
Moving from despair to hope, the family is grateful for the exceptional medical team and the caring encouragement from the House. Chi Lung’s story is like navigating a dark tunnel, but he firmly believes that with perseverance and hope, light always awaits at the end.
