The Hong Kong Green Building Council has announced that the Ronald McDonald House Charities (Kwun Tong House) Jockey Club Building has been awarded the Final Silver grading in the BEAM Plus New Buildings scheme. BEAM Plus is Hong Kong’s leading initiative to offer independent assessments of building sustainability performance. Whether a building is new, refurbished or in use, BEAM Plus provides building users with a single performance label that reflects the overall quality of the building. Since its launch in 2010, approximately 1,000 building projects across Hong Kong have been rated under this program.
Funded by a nearly HK$400 million donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Kwun Tong House opened in 2023. It previously received the “Merit Award – Institutional Building” and the ” Theme Award – Inclusive Architecture” at the HKIA Annual Awards 2024 organized by The Hong Kong Institute of Architects. In this BEAM Plus assessment, the Kwun Tong House achieved an overall score of 63 in sustainability aspects such as Energy Use, Innovation and Additions, and Indoor Environmental Quality, earning the final Silver rating certificate. Ronald McDonald House Charities Hong Kong remains dedicated to providing a comfortable and supportive temporary home for children facing illness and their families. The renewed recognition of the Kwun Tong House’s environment is a meaningful affirmation of our efforts. We look forward to continued support from the community as we stand alongside children facing illness and their families.
