Policy Giving: No act of kindness is too small: A sharing from Carey
“It was 10 years ago the thought of donating policy arised, but I didn’t take action immediately. I hope people would take action sooner if they’re keen about that,” said Carey.
As an office clerk, Carey spends her leisure time volunteering for different charities and donates from time to time. She recalled she had the idea of donating policy some times ago, she then called her policy agent for arrangement and decided RMHC Hong Kong as one of the beneficiaries. “I haven’t volunteer for charities as often as in the past as life is getting busier. However, I still hope to help out as I believe it is a form of destiny being able to help others,” she said.
Carey is particularly caring for the needs of ill children and the elderly. She gets to know RMHC Hong Kong because of her idol, the pop singer Keung To, and also the interview of the beneficiary Rachel. The sharing of Rachel’s mother in the interview impressed Carey most that going back and forth to the hospital for Rachel’s treatment was most exhausted physically and mentally. However, with the help of the medical social worker referring the family to stay at RMHC Hong Kong, transportation time can be shorterned. The family felt relievfed during the stay as the House provided different activities for them to participate. “I think this is a place really helps those ill children and their families,” Carey said.
Carey thinks what she does is ‘insignificant’: “I don’t come from a wealthy background but living in public housing. I could only help the best way I could. We never know what will happen tomorrow; and it’s never too early to make planning. I hope that everyone will gradually open their minds, leave their assets to their families, and also consider donating to others, so that more people in need can be benefited.
In Memory Giving: An impactful meaning: A story of Jannet donating on behalf of Raymond
“Everytime I see Raymond’s name engraved on the leaf of Tree of Life, I find comfort in it and feel content,” Jannet shared.
Raymond’s family wanted to donate part of his heritage to charity as his passing, his fiancé Jannet recalled. Choosing RMHC Hong Kong as the beneficiary because the couple have known about RMHC Hong Kong well due to their work. Hence, with the donation of legarcy, his name is engraved on the leaf of Tree of Life. She said: “Before he passed away, Raymond had always been supportive to the work of RMHC Hong Kong. Raymond died from illness. We hope to extend his spirit after his death to help more children suffering from illness.”
Working for the training department at McDonald’s restaurant, she regularly brings people to visit Ronald McDonald House. “Since I know well how RMHC Hong Kong supports ill children and their families, I trust the legacy of Raymond will be well used. Everytime when I see his leaf, I feel proud and relief as I could help extend his love to people in need,” she ended.
